Excursion to Door County

Old barn with a rainbow in the background..It was not the nicest day weather wise, but this made for a great photo op!

I wasn't...but the beer was... :-)

My new friend in front of Casey's BBQ & Smokehouse, Egg Harbor http://caseysbbqandsmokehouse.com/default.aspx

Prior to plastic coming onto the scene! They don't make 'em like this anymore!

Old Ford delivery van at Hyline Orchard, Hwy. 42. Best part of the stop was the photo op's!

JD on her way into Hyline Orchard where we quickly found out specializes in "mean and crotchety"! Too bad that some people hate life and feel the need to take it out on everyone else!

Curt's Spice Co. & Oilerie, LLC in Fish Creek
Thursday, I had to make a couple calls in Door County, which is about an hour and a half NE of us. Since it is a vacation destination with many unique little boutique type retailers I asked JD to accompany me. She quickly accepted the offer. Our first stop was Door County Coffee where my first call was. We couldn't resist having Mocha's...mmmmm...very good. For those of you who don't know this drink, it is a shot (or two) of espresso, steamed milk and chocolate! JD can rattle these recipes off as she managed a Starbucks "way" back when. Here is the link if you want to check it out. http://www.doorcountycoffee.com/session_c82d2c7e3665/ We couldn't leave until we purchased a couple bags of specialty blends.

Next stop was the Ephraim Inn in Ephraim..go figure! It's a beautiful sixteen room B&B. I had some business to tend to with the owners. Hopefully one day we will be able to get back up there to stay a night or two. Here is the link if you're looking to stay there or simply interested in checking it out. It comes highly recommended! http://www.theephraiminn.com/

On the way back JD was anxious to stop by The Oilerie in Fish Creek. This is truly a specialty shop by definition as they specialize in extra virgin olive oils and balsamic vinegars. After getting a tour of the store, JD left with six bottles of assorted oils and vinegars and a big smile on her face! Here is the link. http://oilerie.com/

Well, we are going to head out to the garden soon, need to harvest some corn, it's ready..finally!

Enjoy the day!

Peace..R Dean

  1. Gasp! I do believe I see weeds growing under that automobile. That's a sure sign that it needs me. :)

Looks like that was the pig that cried, "Wee-Wee!" all the way home.

Really great photos today, thank you for sharing them. :)

  5. I checked out The Oilerie's website. Oh man! I would be in heaven...

So what kind of job do you have that you get to drink coffee and visit B&B's? Sounds like a pretty good gig :-)

  6. Tracey, you forgot..and drink beer too! LOL. Isn't the Oilerie cool? He is looking for franchisee's..hint, hint...

I know that we couldn't get one because we are in between the Fish Creek location and the Brookfield location, which I believe are the only two in existence, but I could be wrong.

I have a great job, I work in the wholesale plumbing industry for a privately held company that is over 100 years old.

  7. Thanks for the vicarious travel. :>) Sounds like it was a good trip - even if some were "mean and crotchety." Cheers.

  8. Conny, thanks for stopping by my blog! I can't wait to check yours out when I have a few more minutes..it looks cool from the brief visit I made.

The "mean and crotchety" was directed at the owner..the poor woman is so unhappy..unfortunately..she takes it out on her customers...hmmmm....wonder if she realizes they keep her in business??? Have a great day!
